I bought a fuerte at Lowe’s and this heat killed mind I live here close to Modesto @jeff I live in Newman ca what will be the best tree to buy and were can I go buy it please
Try Lowe’s
What will be the best tree to invest in I thank uou😊
How much sun can they tolerate? Is partial shade better?
Shade after 3 pm is ok
I want to grow mango tree in Roseville 9b where can I buy tree?
I’ve gotten them at lowes
In south Florida avocado and mango trees are not at all hard to plant. If you plant in spring to take advantage of the daily summer rainstorms no need to even water. It is citrus that is more of a challenge.
Part of it is weather . Florida is more like greenhouse whereas California is more like a desert
Hi, Thank you for the wonderful video. Please share with me the fertilizer you used to keep the soil acidic and the things you added to the miracle soil. Thank you in advance!
I use miracid fert a I used peat and perlite soil
@@TropicalGardenGuy Thank you!
Hi sir can i ask?what flower inducer brand name for logan and what month u do start to induce longan tree? Your advice will be highly appreciated -peter sia from philippine we a tropical climatic season
I just use Hollytone
114 temperatures.
Yup
Given that the three races of avocados are Mexican, Guatamalan and West Indian pretty sure they are acclimated to hot weather.
Yes, but remember, 100f dry weather is pretty much rare ,
I do live pretty close to Georgia but still living in Florida frosts are not really expected. Especially if you get the ones they grow in the Mexican highlands. Summer or fall hurricanes are much more likely.
Agreed
😮 that is 43 degree Celsius ! Jesus. I think night time low temperature allowing the tree to recover ?
Yes our lows are in 22c range
That look like Don Gillogly avocado
Hmmm
Awesome videos Jeff, hey quick question I live in modesto also and was woundering where can I purchase a mexicola grande in are area ?
Try Lowe’s and home depot
You are indeed the first to set cannonball fruit in hot valley , i couldnt see it real well but your fruit looks kinda skinny , i thought it would start out more round. I got heat damage on my biggest cannon also and the heat made new growth leaves smaller , im thinking sept leave growth the tree will go back to normal i would give cannon a 6 or 7 i think you gave it a 5 or a 6. I think i would rate the zutano a 10 for high heat no damage seen the no small or crinkle new leaf growth
Email me and I’ll send you better pics. Those fruit are already showing to be huge as they only set a month ago. They were the last to set .
Bay Giant looks excellente!
Agreed

Thanks for the update Jeff - ur trees look beautiful

Its a such a huge difference in climate lol, you've struggled to drop below 100f and we've struggled to go over 70f 😂. At least I'm grateful avocados take cool summers. If only our winters were 5f milder all winter they'd thrive outside
Who knows with the warmer climate you may be able to grow mangoes in the uk in 50 years
Your grafted avocado trees seem to have faired really well during those warm temperatures, Jeff 👍. Which way does your front yard face?
The front is west facing
Jeff, same type of heat up here in El Dorado Hills. Two hottest days were 112.1 and 110.3 on my Tempest Weather station. I watered a lot and it worked well. My Mexicola Grande in the ground did fine but it gets some afternoon shade from the house that helps. I water that tree twice per week. My 7 smaller Avo trees in 15 gallon pots and 24" boxes look really good. I used some shade cloth on the 24" boxes and moved the 15 gallon trees to where they get some afternoon shade. They need water every day but in the proper amount. Cheers...Chris
One difference is if you are off the valley floor, you guys heat up fast in the morning. I have a friend living in copperpolis elevation 500 ft, had a low of 81f this am and by 8 am was in 90’s will down in valley I was 10 degrees cooler… till afternoon
Interesting.....we are at 465 feet above sea level and are located in a dip between a big hill/ridge on one side and a small hill on the other side. Sounds like your friend experiences a bigger variation from the valley floor than we do. We do have differences here from the valley floor but not as pronounced as you mentioned. In the summer, Sacramento can be about 2 degrees hotter than us....Sac is 30 miles away. In the winter, we can run about 2 degrees colder than the normal El Dorado Hills forecast on some days. I think that is because the cold air runs down hill from the big ridge above us and collects in the little valley we are in. It's a microclimate thing. We (my wife and I) love to hear all of your tips and wisdom Jeff! It helps us improve our gardening! Thank-you!
Your avocado tree video is fantastic! Wondering if trees grow new shoots in the summer.?
Yes they do once we cool down
Mexican guave is my favourite fruit since I've tried it in Yucatán. It is so delicious. Sadly I cannot get them in Germany (if they are available here, answer to my comment where I can buy them), but this may motivate me to visit Mexico again ;)
I have seeds that I’m giving away on my latest video on ( Modesto Jeff ) on RUclips Address is at the end of my video
Looks like the valley is going to get down to normal this upcoming week. Though that is still going to be hot-ish it's going to feel so nice compared to what we've been having. Love the content!
🤞
hey Jeff, want to share some scion wood with me? im heading to sacramento this sunday, would love to make a detour for some scion!
Towards the end of summer. I do give aways on Modesto Jeff channel on RUclips
We have a larger lechee tree, about 6 feet tall and quite wide. We need to move it, how difficult would this be? How deep and wide are the roots? Should we hire someone to do this?
They can be difficult to move at that age
No Reed in your collection ?
I had a graft take last month. It did fine in the sun

Is it possible to grow lychee in zone7 in container and get fruits
Yes in a greenhouse
Great advice, thanks 🙏 ❤
Thank you for the helpful infos! ❤
Where did you get the high mountain coco palm? I can't find one anywhere but I want to grow one at home in So Cal. Thanks.
Florabunda palms online
@@TropicalGardenGuy Thank you very much.
After it roots, what type of soil should I use to keep it in a pot? And if I put it in the ground, what type of soil should I add? We are in Sarasota and the ground is mostly sand. I cut clippings from a tree in our backyard
Sand is good
That root was huge, first time I see one like that. I wonder if is something from that specific variety. You mention you grow macadamian nuts; I have been looking for one tree but no luck. Do you sell any ?
No I don’t sell stuff, I got Mac tree online
Hi Jeff, did your strawberry papaya survive the winter in Modesto and did it fruit ? I was at Home Depot today & they have strawberry papaya, Brazil & Mexican papaya in. Reading the label of all three varieties. The strawberry papapa on the label say it could handle temperature down to 20 F other 2 varieties Mexican & Brazil papaya down to 30 F. Was wondering were you able to get your tree to fruit ? And how long did it take for your tree to fruit ?
It rotted, but I got a maradol papaya that made through this past winter and is setting fruit now
@@TropicalGardenGuy Well, I picked up four strawberry papaya tree at home depot today. It is about 3ft tall. Will know if the trees survive this winter in West Paso Robles ? My Hellen, Gem, Carmen, Gillogly, Hass, Gwen, Choquette, Bacon, Wurtz, Lamb, Reed, Pinkerton, Sir Prize is producing fruits. Don Gillogly fruits is growing super fast. Just for your info. I am in Zone 8B elevation 2000. Hopefully next year the rest of my avocados trees being older will not dropped fruits🤞🍷

Great video!!! My uncle has a MexicolaGrande tree, about 10 yrs old and every year has dropped all the fruit. He lives in Ceres, I wonder what is missing. Do you fertilize the tree when flowering and if you do. What type of fertilizer? Thanks
No I dont fertilize when Flowering. I use Hollytone Evergreen
I just got my first plumeria cutting. Thanks for all your videos! Do indoor plumeria have to be overwintered if they will be staying indoors all winter? Thank you!
Any idea if I can use this holly tone for dwarf mango trees as well? Same amount?
Yup
Very nice mango tree .. where can I buy one !
Lowes often carries them
sorry to hear that , mine to but i,ll keep on trying . terry
I’ll be trying again soon
Where can I order or buy the mexicola grande? Also where do you live? Interested in the heat and cold comments
Sorry but I’m just a home gardener, I don’t sell stuff
I wonder if it ever gave you a pink pineapple
No, the resulting plantlet was very weak
@TropicalGardenGuy aww, I was hopeful, it looked good
hi jeff how is your jackfruit going . terry
Froze!😭
Really glad I found your channel Jeff! Agroforestry videos led me here. I’m in Escalon and would like to add bananas to my food forest, do you still sell the pups? If not, do you know of any local nurseries that sell them? Thanks!
I generally don’t sell stuff, but I do think my wife has a couple extra ones she may sell. They aren’t cheap though due to supply and demand. I’ve never seen hardy fruiting varieties locally Tropic2tropical@hotmail.com
@@TropicalGardenGuy thanks Jeff, sent you an email
When the palm is young it is at its most vulnerable to cold. In California, as a general rule until it develops at least 1 foot of solid trunk and the leaves open out, it must be kept in the pot so that it can be taken indoors during any prolonged chilly Winter spells. Then it can be planted into the ground; but also beware that some palm types (e.g. Mexican Fan) may deprive the Coconut of water if planted too close. The most succesful current long-term ones (e.g. Santa Ana) were carefully looked after when young, as well as being in a very favourable location.
Agreed!
Can I put fertilizer on my guava tree wild barring fruit?
I dont
Where can I find a plant of this type. I live in san jose
Contact me at tropic2tropical@hotmail.com
Thank you so much after a long time I follow your advice and use the more bloom process the next week I got my very first flower buds, thank you once again
Very welcome!
It’s illegal to grow pink pineapple because it is patented. This is why they cut the crown off so no one can propagate it
Lol, thanks for your opinion. Definitely something to think about. Folks should not grow and sell patented fruit or plants not purchased. BUT, We need to be careful about giving legal advice when it comes to these things. ( unless patent lawyers ) Ive been growing pink variegated pineapples for over 20 years, long before the current pink pineapple craze. Pineapples crowns used in this video were from fruit not commercially marked or labeled…. Except that they said “ Pink Pineapple “ . No company name, grower info or patent status was on the label. Think about this the next time you buy an avocado at the grocery store, then plant the seed….There are several patented avocado varieties out there. We dont want to scare off home gardeners that want to buy and grow a tree for personal use. Happy Growing! 🌴😎🌴
